The Wilderness contains the northern portion of the Jackson Mountains. Elevations range from 4,000 to 8,400 feet on top of Parrot Peak, with deep rugged, canyons that dissect the Wilderness. Sagebrush is the dominant vegetation type, with saltbrush and greasewood occurring at the lower elevations. Several canyons also contain willows, cottonwoods, aspens and other riparian species. Junipers also occur in the higher elevations. Wildlife in the area include California bighorn sheep, mule deer, pronghorn antelope, mountain lions, coyotes, and sagegrouse.
