Sylvania Mountains Wilderness
The Sylvania Mountains are shared by California and Nevada, and the Wilderness starts on the desert floor and rises eastward over gradually rolling hills to rough and mountainous terrain reaching nearly 8,000 feet in height. From the higher country, you can look south over the Last Chance Range into Death Valley National Park, north across dry Fish Lake Valley, and west to Piper Mountain–the sheer immensity of the region is a humbling experience. Sagebrush scrub dominates the vegetation on the east, and gives way to piñon pine and juniper at the higher elevations. You might see deer, chukar partridge, and bighorn sheep roaming about. You won't see trails or water.

Boundary, simplified to about 0.005 degrees
The outline is the agency boundary simplified for display, so small parcels and inholdings may not show. The agency page has the authoritative map.
Weather by month
Large units span more than one climate. The station stands in for the center point, and the outer parts of the boundary can be warmer or colder.
Where to camp
No federal campground is within ten miles of the boundary in the Campsite Atlas index. Camping inside a wilderness is usually allowed away from trails and water, with no facilities; the managing agency page has the permit and group-size rules.
